Canyon Boys Basketball Team Moves Into Classic Semifinals

khts_sportsThe Canyon boys basketball team continues its hot start to the season and advanced to the semifinals of the Canyon Classic Tournament.

Behind 32 points from Clay Kasdorf, Canyon beat Lancaster, 73-38, taking an early lead in the first half.

Canyon led 23-5 after the first quarter and cruised the rest of the way.

The Valencia boys basketball team lost its first game of the season, 63-61, to Grant in the Canyon Classic.

Troy Hammel led Valencia with 21 points and scored 13 in the second quarter. He had a chance to give the Vikings a lead in the final seconds of the game, but missed a shot. Mike Garrett put up a 3-pointer at the buzzer, but his shot also missed.

Valencia’s Zach Davis scored 14 points and had four rebounds.

The West Ranch boys basketball team started the Oak Park Tournament with a win. The Wildcats beat St. Bonaventure, 63-40, and Jeremy Gatewood scored 15 points. Ryan Webb scored 11.

West Ranch plays Oxnard today in the Oak Park Tournament.

On the girls side, West Ranch beat Channel Islands, 56-34, in the Gold Coast Tournament at Rio Mesa.

Alexus Bryant scored 14 points and teammate Whitney Branham had 13 for West Ranch.

The Saugus girls lost their first game in the Gold Coast Tournament to Dos Pueblos, 63-55. Megan Dawe scored 18 points for Saugus.

In girls soccer, West Ranch shut out St. Bonaventure, 5-0. Kendall Moskal scored two goals and had two assists.

In college basketball, the College of the Canyons women beat Cypress College, 78-62, behind 19 points and 20 rebounds from Angelica Sahagun.

In hockey, the Kings are home for a game against the Minnesota Wild tonight at Staples Center. The Kings have lost two games in a row.
