Canyon Boys Basketball Team Reaches Ventura Tournament Final

khts_sportsThe Canyon boys basketball team reached the championship game of the Ventura Tournament, but lost to host Ventura, 56-36.

Clay Kasdorf and Coley Apsay each scored a team-high nine points as the Ventura defense clamped down on two of Canyon’s top scorers.

Kasdorf and Apsay earned spots on the all-tournament team. Canyon is back in action tonight against Rio Mesa.

There is a full slate of high school basketball games tonight. On the boys side, Valencia is home against Blair, West Ranch hosts Camarillo and Saugus is on the road against Oak Park.

The Saugus girls travel to Marymount and the Hart girls are home for a game against Granada Hills.

The Golden Valley boys soccer team beat Alemany, 3-1, behind two goals and an assist from Francis Diaz. Josh Torres notched two assists and Andres Lozano scored the other goal for Golden Valley.

The Santa Clarita Christian boys soccer team lost to LA Baptist, 3-0.

The Santa Clarita Christian girls soccer team is scheduled to play Trinity at The Master’s College today. The Hart boys soccer team is home for a game against La Canada today.

The Stanford Cardinal won the Orange Bowl, 40-12, over Virginia Tech. Stanford scored 27 points in the second half to turn a one-point game at halftime into a 28-point blowout.

Hart High graduate Delano Howell had a key interception in the first quarter that set up Stanford’s first touchdown of the game. He also recorded two sacks.

Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck threw for 287 yards and four touchdowns. Three of those touchdowns went to Coby Fleener.

The Dodgers signed pitcher Tim Redding to a minor league contract. Redding pitched in the minor leagues with the Colorado Rockies and New York Yankees before ending the season in South Korea.

Redding has pitched for five major league teams in his career, most recently with the New York Mets in 2009.

The Kings lost to the Chicago Blackhawks, 4-3, and have dropped four in a row. Ryan Smyth scored two goals for the Kings in the loss.

Patrick Sharp scored two goals for the Blackhawks.

The Kings are back home for a game against the Nashville Predators on Thursday night.
