Canyon Boys Basketball Team Takes Down Valencia

khts_sportsThe Canyon boys basketball team ended a nearly nine-year winless streak against Valencia with a 50-47 victory. The last time Canyon beat Valencia was in 2002.

Canyon’s Darnel Haggerty scored 15 points to pace his team against Valencia.

Valencia’s Lonnie Jackson, playing in his first game since being sidelined with a foot injury two weeks ago, scored a game-high 19 points.

The Hart boys beat Saugus, 54-46, behind a double-double from Roman Delgado. He scored 21 points and had 15 rebounds. It was the second Foothill League win in a row for Hart.

Chris Lockwood scored 14 points of the bench to lead Saugus.

The West Ranch boys basketball team beat Golden Valley, 62-56. Ako Kaluna scored 12 of his 22 points in the fourth quarter to lead West Ranch.

Wade Rodriguez scored a team-high 17 points for Golden Valley.

On the girls side, Hart beat Saugus, 57-49. Christina Falcone led Hart with 18 points.

Megan Dawe scored 20 points and had six rebounds for Saugus.

The West Ranch girls beat Golden Valley, 69-27. Whitney Branham scored 17 points for West Ranch. Mariah Madison had a team-high 10 points for Golden Valley.

The Canyon girls beat Valencia, 50-41. Canyon’s Alia McCoy scored a game-high 15 points.

Lauren Spargo scored 10 points for Valencia as Canyon held the Vikings to 5-of-23 shooting in the second half.

The Golden Valley and West Ranch freshman boys soccer teams played to a 2-2 draw. JT Tolentino and Caesar Romo each scored a goal for Golden Valley. Michael Richardson assisted on Tolentino’s goal. Golden Valley goalkeeper John Galvan preserved the tie making a diving save on a penalty kick.

The Master’s College men’s basketball team lost to Azusa Pacific, 95-82. Anthony Cammon scored 24 points and hit five 3-pointers in the loss.

The Master’s College women lost to Azusa Pacific, 81-75. Erica Inge scored 28 points and made three 3-pointers in the loss.

The Dodgers outfield is overflowing, but they still don’t have a regular left-fielder on their roster. The Dodgers signed free-agent outfielder Marcus Thames to a one-year deal. He spent last season with the New York Yankees and played in 82 games. He hit .288 and had a .350 on-base percentage.

The Dodgers also signed free-agent outfielder Gabe Kapler to a minor league contract. Kapler, a graduate of Taft High School in Woodland Hills, played in 59 games for the Tampa Bay Rays last year and hit .210 with two home runs and 14 RBIs.

The Dodgers also avoided arbitration with pitcher Chad Billingsley and agreed to a one-year deal. He was 12-11 with a 3.57 ERA in 2010.

Phillip Anschultz, the owner of the Kings, has agreed to a $1 billion stadium for an NFL team if certain conditions are met, according to Business Journal.

There are four conditions outlined by AEG, owned by Anschultz. It is reported that the San Diego Chargers would be a likely team to move to Los Angeles and play in the new stadium.

The Kings lost to the St. Louis Blues, 2-1, for their second loss in a row on the road. Kyle Clifford scored the lone goal for the Kings. The Kings have lost nine of their past 11 games.

The Kings will be home on Thursday night for a game against the Phoenix Coyotes.
