Canyon Boys Soccer Team Loses In CIF Semifinals

sportscanyonThe Canyon boys soccer team ended its impressive CIF Southern Section Division III playoff run with a loss on penalty kicks to Paramount in the semifinals.

Canyon and Paramount played to a scoreless tie through regulation and overtime. Paramount won the game, 4-2, on penalty kicks to advance to the championship game of the Division III playoffs.

Canyon, meanwhile, ended its deepest run in the playoffs in school history.

The high school boys volleyball season kicked off Tuesday night with Saugus and Hart posting victories.

Saugus swept Lancaster in three games. T.J. Jeffris had 12 kills to lead Saugus. Colby Wilson had seven kills.

The Hart boys beat Chaminade in four games, 3-1. J.J. Mosolf had 10 kills and 13 assists for Hart.

In high school golf, the Valencia boys won their season opener by 35 strokes against Brentwood. Daniel Kim led the way for Valencia with a 3-over 38 in the nine-hole contest at Rancho Park in Los Angeles.

In high school tennis, Canyon easily handled Quartz Hill, 16-2, in a non-league match. Valencia squeaked passed Crescenta Valley, tying 9-9 and winning on games, 81-80.

In high school swimming, the Valencia boys and girls lost to Crescenta Valley. The boys lost, 112-58. The girls made it a little closer, losing 87-83.

The Lakers had no problem against the Indiana Pacers, winning 122-99. Six Lakers scored in double figures. Kobe Bryant scored 24 points, but was 5-for-14 from the field. Pau Gasol had a huge night with 14 points and 16 rebounds. Jordan Farmar added 19 points off the bench.

In hockey, the Kings jumped all over the Dallas Stars, 5-1, and looked impressive in their first game back from the Olympic break. Alexander Frolov scored a goal and had two assists. Drew Doughty notched three assists. Anze Kopitar scored his 29th goal of the season and Jonathan Quick made 31 saves for the Kings.
