Canyon Boys Win Foothill League Soccer Championship

Cowboys capture title with 1-0 win over Hart.
In soccer, the Canyon boys team clinched the Foothill League championship over the weekend after beating Hart, 1-0, and seeing Golden Valley and Saugus play to a 1-1 tie.
Canyon has a 6-1-1 record in the Foothill League, and 19 points. Golden Valley, the second place team in league with a 3-2-3 record, cannot catch Canyon for the Foothill League lead. Saugus is in third place with a 2-1-5 league record.
On the girls side, the three-way tie for first place remained, with Canyon, Saugus and Valencia all winning their games on Friday. Canyon beat Hart 1-0, Saugus beat Golden Valley 11-0, and Valencia beat West  Ranch, 3-2.
Saugus plays at Canyon and Valencia hosts Golden Valley on Tuesday.
In high school basketball, first place Golden Valley got 31 points from Maverick Ahanmisi and downed Saugus 85-76 on Friday night. Valencia moved into a tie for third place with West Ranch with a 70-64 win Friday night. Both teams have a 4-4 league record. The top three teams in the Foothill League standings will earn an automatic playoff berth. There are only two games left for each team in the regular season, which ends on Thursday.
Saugus has new scoring leader. Gabby Conn scored 18 points in a 78-28 win over Golden Valley on Friday night and tied the school scoring record for a girls basketball player. Saugus leads the Foothill League standings with a 7-1 record and plays Canyon on Tuesday. Valencia is a game back, at 6-2, and plays at Golden Valley on Tuesday.
