Canyon Football Team Slips Past Pesky Saugus

The Canyon football team narrowly escaped with a 23-20 win over Saugus in a Foothill League game on Friday night.

Saugus missed a 29-yard field goal as time expired. The field goal would have tied the score and sent the game into overtime.

Instead, Canyon won its third game in a row. Canyon quarterback Cade Apsay scored the game-winning touchdown on a keeper in the fourth quarter.

But the Cowboys left enough time on the clock for Saugus to try a field goal at the end of the game. The Centurions missed the kick, wide right.

In other action in the Foothill League, the Hart football team clobbered Golden Valley, 61-13, and won its seventh game in a row.

Hart quarterback Brady White threw for 194 yards and three touchdowns. Defensive end David Russon scored two touchdowns.

Spencer Klehn scored three touchdowns for Trinity.

The Santa Clarita Christian football team beat Frazier Mountain, 30-22.

The College of the Canyons football team beat Ventura College, 44-23. The Cougars have won six games in a row.

In auto racing, Santa Clarita’s Rich DeLong III won the Street Stocks race at Kern County Raceway Park in Bakersfield. It was his fourth win in a row at the track.

About Connie Jones

Connie and her husband, John, moved to the Santa Clarita Valley almost 30 years ago. Living in Santa Clarita for that long is the direct opposite of Connie’s childhood. She was an Army ‘brat’ who moved every two to three years. Consequently, she has lived in many states and even spent three years in Europe. All three of her kids went to Santa Clarita schools. Connie says the best thing about her job at KHTS is that she is never bored. “If I’m not smiling, Carl is sure to ask why, just before giving me a mind-boggling project.” “KHTS AM-1220 is an integral part of our community and I’m glad to be a part of it. Besides, the DJs will take my request to play Shania Twain’s ‘Still the One’ for my wedding anniversary – gotta love that!”
