Canyon Girls Soccer Team Moves Into First Place In Foothill League

sportscanyonThe Canyon girls soccer team has emerged in first place in the Foothill League standings after a 1-0 win over Valencia. Marina Gonzalez scored the lone goal in the 55th minute of the game.

The Hart girls soccer team got goals from Kelli Goss and Kelsey Steck in a 2-1 win over Saugus. Hart and Saugus are tied for second place in the Foothill League standings.

 

The Canyon boys soccer team ran its league record to 6-0 with a 1-0 win over Valencia. Mohammed Roknipour scored in the second half to give his team the win.

The Saugus boys got a goal from James Bunch in a 1-0 win over Hart.

Believe it or not, it’s baseball season. The Master’s College swept a doubleheader against Patten over the weekend. Pete Goeman drove in three runs in his team’s 13-3 win in the first game. Joe Zeller, Chris Talley and Steve Vranau each drove in two runs in a 9-0 win in the second game.

The College of the Canyons softball team began play over the weekend as well and swept a doubleheader against Santiago Canyon.

COC won the first game, 2-1. Freshman shortstop Ruby Herrera drove in a run and scored in the fifth inning.
Melissa Herndon had three hits and drove in two runs in the second game, a 10-3 COC blowout.

In college basketball, the College of the Canyons men’s team got 23 points from Brannon Bradley in an 82-66 win over Culver City.

The College of the Canyons women beat West L.A. College, 91-43, and ran their record to 7-0 in Western State Conference play.

The Master’s College men beat Vanguard, 58-57, behind 16 points from Dean Hadley.

The Master’s College women didn’t have such luck against Vanguard. The women lost, 91-64. Jenna Reed and Lena Rivera each scored a team-high 12 points for The Master’s College.

The College of the Canyons ice hockey team won the Pacific Coast Hockey Association championship with a 7-3 win over Cal State Northridge. Next up for the COC ice hockey team is PCHA tournament this weekend in Lake Tahoe.

Kobe Bryant passed Jerry West and became the Lakers all-time leading scorer by dropping 44 points on the Memphis Grizzlies. But the Lakers lost, 95-93. Ron Artest had a wide open 3-pointer, but missed the shot at the buzzer. The Lakers return home after going 5-3 on their longest road trip of the season.

The Clippers are in Chicago tonight for a game against the Bulls. The Clippers are in the midst of a four-game losing streak and have dropped to seven games under .500.

The Dodgers have a new outfielder. They signed a one-year contract with free-agent Reed Johnson, formerly of the Chicago Cubs, who will most likely be the Dodgers fourth outfielder.

In the NHL, the Kings, winners of six straight games, are home against the New York Rangers tonight. Pregame starts at 7 on AM 1220, KHTS.
