Canyon Grad Brandon Reeves Headed To UTSA For Football

khts_sportsBrandon Reeves, who played on the 2006 CIF state championship football team for Canyon High School, will continue his collegiate career at the University of Texas, San Antonio.

Reeves, a linebacker who has been playing football at LA Pierce College, recorded 175 tackles, 12 for losses, in his sophomore season.

In the American Championship Bowl against San Bernardino Valley College, Reeves had five tackles and blocked two punts. Pierce won the game, 58-36, to cap an 8-3 season.

The Hart and West Ranch boys basketball teams lost their games in the College of the Canyons Showcase over the weekend.

The Hart boys almost pulled off a fourth-quarter comeback against Ribet Academy, but lost 58-55. Down by eight points entering the final period, Hart cut the lead to three points with 20 seconds in the game, but couldn’t get any closer.

Hart’s Roman Delgado scored a team-high 24 points. Teammate Cole Preston scored 15 in the loss.

The West Ranch boys had their hands full with Price, losing 58-18. West Ranch was playing without one of its top scorers, injured Ako Kaluna. Justin Ballenger led West Ranch with six points in the game.

The Santa Clarita Christian boys won their Heritage League opener, 61-53, over Hillcrest Christian. Bret Ranhofer scored 22 points for Santa Clarita Christian.

The Canyon girls basketball team won its home opener, 59-30, over Notre Dame. Four Canyon players scored in double figures. Jaya Schultz and Alia McCoy each scored 12.

The Saugus girls lost to Chaminade, 60-44. Megan Dawe scored 11 points for Saugus.

In college basketball, The Master’s College women beat Point Loma Nazarene, 72-71, on a last-second layup by Erica Inge. She put her team up by one with four seconds left in the game.

She scored only six points in the game, but also had nine assists.

The Master’s College men lost to Point Loma Nazarene, 75-58. Devin Dyer scored a team-high 15 points for The Master’s College.

In high school soccer, the Santa Clarita Christian boys beat Hillcrest Christian, 2-1, in the Heritage League opener for both teams. Daniel Stratton had a goal and an assist.

The Santa Clarita Christian girls beat Hillcrest Christian, 8-0. Joanna Masopust and Colette Blake each scored two goals for Santa Clarita Christian in the Heritage League opener.

The Kings and defenseman Jack Johnson agreed to a seven-year contract extension. He is in his fifth season with the Kings and is coming off a three assist game against the Columbus Blue Jackets. The deal will reportedly pay Johnson $30.5 million.

The Kings are home for a game against the Toronto Maple Leafs tonight at Staples Center. The Kings snapped a five-game losing streak with a 6-4 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday night.

The Maple Leafs crushed the Atlanta Thrashers, 9-3, on Friday night.
