Canyon High Graduate Greg Pursley Finishes Ninth In NASCAR West Series Race

khts_sportsCanyon High graduate Greg Pursley finished ninth in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West race at Portland International Raceway in Oregon. Pursley was in the lead for 14 laps midway through the race.

Patrick Long, a driver from Thousand Oaks, won the race and led a race-high 51 laps. He started on the pole and led the first 30 laps of the race. Pursley took over the lead during green-flag pit stops, but Long regained the lead on lap 45.

It was the second career West Series win for Long. Pursley posted his fourth top 10 finish of the season.

In the Firestone Indy Lights series, Stefan Wilson, driving for Bryan Herta Autosport, finished fifth in the race in Toronto. His teammate, Sebastian Saavedra had a rough race. The gear box on his car broke and he finished 14th.

For Wilson, it was his second top-five finish in the past two races at Toronto.

For Saavedra, he came in as the reigning champion of the Indy Lights race in Toronto, winning from the pole in last year’s race. But gear box problems plagued his car all weekend.

JK Vernay won the Indy Lights race in Toronto. Saavedra dropped to fifth place in the Indy Lights standings. Wilson maintained his position in sixth place in the Indy Lights standings.

At Toyota Speedway at Irwindale, Joe Anderson of Valencia fell a couple spots short of winning his second race in a row in the S2 stock car division.

Anderson finished third in Saturday night’s race at Irwindale. Dylan Lupton of Wilton won the race.

The Dodgers looked like they might escape St. Louis with at least one win, taking a 4-0 lead into the eighth inning against the Cardinals.

But St. Louis scored five runs in the final two innings and won, 5-4, to complete the four-game sweep of the Dodgers.

Ronnie Belliard was 2-for-4 and scored a run. Dodger starter Vicente Padilla tossed six scoreless innings and gave up only one hit.

But the Cardinals rallied for three runs in the eighth inning. Matt Holliday drove in the game-winning run off Dodgers closer Jonathan Broxton with two outs in the ninth inning.

The Dodgers come home to start a series with the San Francisco Giants tonight. James McDonald is back with the big club and will start for the Dodgers. The Giants counter with Madison Bumgarner. Pregame starts at 6:30 on AM 1220, KHTS.

About Connie Jones

Connie and her husband, John, moved to the Santa Clarita Valley almost 30 years ago. Living in Santa Clarita for that long is the direct opposite of Connie’s childhood. She was an Army ‘brat’ who moved every two to three years. Consequently, she has lived in many states and even spent three years in Europe. All three of her kids went to Santa Clarita schools. Connie says the best thing about her job at KHTS is that she is never bored. “If I’m not smiling, Carl is sure to ask why, just before giving me a mind-boggling project.” “KHTS AM-1220 is an integral part of our community and I’m glad to be a part of it. Besides, the DJs will take my request to play Shania Twain’s ‘Still the One’ for my wedding anniversary – gotta love that!”
