Canyon Seeded No. 2 In CIF Southern Section Division 2AA Boys Basketball Playoffs

khts_sportsThe Canyon boys basketball team is the No. 2 seed in the CIF Southern Section Division 2AA playoffs. The Cowboys, co-champions of the Foothill League, play Godinez from the Orange Coast League in the first round on Wednesday.

The Saugus boys earned the No. 13 seed in the Division 2AA playoffs. They will travel to play Inglewood in the first round.

Ocean View is the No. 1 seed in the Division 2AA playoffs.

West Ranch is the No. 9 seed in the Southern Section Division 1A playoffs and will play Paramount in the first round. The Wildcats finished in a first-place tie with Canyon in the Foothill League standings.

Mission Viejo is the No. 1 seed in Division 1A.

The Hart boys are on the road in the first round of the Division 3AAA playoffs and play 11th-seeded Lawndale.

The Santa Clarita Christian boys are home in the first round of the Division 5A playoffs and will play 11th-seeded Valley Torah.

The Trinity boys, the Omega League champions, are the No. 8 seed in the Division 6 playoffs and will play Coastal Christian in the first round.

On the girls side, Canyon and Saugus, the co-champions of the Foothill League, are home for their first-round playoff games.

Canyon is the No. 8 seed in the Division 2AA playoffs and plays Redlands from the Citrus Belt League in the first round on Saturday.

The Saugus girls are the No. 7 seed in the Division 2A playoffs and plays Claremont from the Sierra League in the first round.

The Valencia girls play Knight in the wild-card round of the Division 1AA playoffs on Thursday.

The West Ranch girls have the No. 16 seed in the Division 1A playoffs and have a tough first-round game on the road against Pacifica of Oxnard.

The Golden Valley girls play third-seeded Arroyo Grande in the Division 3AAA playoffs on Thursday.

In auto racing, Newhall’s Johnny Ahten, the captain at Fire Station 76 in Valencia, lost in the first round of the NHRA Top Alcohol Dragster races at the Full Throttle Drag Racing Series Winternationals in Pomona.

IMG_2122Larry Miersch, who reached the Top Alcohol Dragster final, led from start to finish and beat Ahten by about a car length.

Chris Demke beat Miersch in the final to win his sixth national event.

In hockey, the Kings ended their six-game road trip with a 4-2 win over the Dallas Stars. The Kings went 2-4 on the road trip. They have a few days off before their next game.

The Kings play the Phoenix Coyotes at Staples Center on Thursday.
