Canyon Sneaks Into Football Playoffs On Coin Flip

sportscanyonThe Canyon High football team is going to the CIF playoffs.

Canyon, West Ranch and Saugus each finished with identical 2-3 Foothill League records and tied for third place in the league standings.

 

Canyon won its league finale, 17-10, over Saugus. West Ranch was blown out, 49-10, by Valencia. After the West Ranch game at Valencia High School, third place in the Foothill League standings was determined by a coin flip. Canyon, 2-8 overall with both wins coming in the team’s last two games, won the flip and the coveted playoff spot.

Valencia, 10-0 overall, won the Foothill League championship with a perfect 5-0 league record. Hart, 7-3 overall, was second in league at 4-1. The top-three teams in the Foothill League earn automatic berths in the CIF Southern Section Northern Division playoffs.
