Canyon Sneaks Into Football Playoffs On Coin Flip

sportscanyonThe Canyon High football team is going to the CIF playoffs.

Canyon, West Ranch and Saugus each finished with identical 2-3 Foothill League records and tied for third place in the league standings.

Canyon won its league finale, 17-10, over Saugus. West Ranch was blown out, 49-10, by Valencia. After the West Ranch game at Valencia High School, third place in the Foothill League standings was determined by a coin flip. Canyon, 2-8 overall with both wins coming in the team’s last two games, won the flip and the coveted playoff spot.

Valencia, 10-0 overall, won the Foothill League championship with a perfect 5-0 league record. Hart, 7-3 overall, was second in league at 4-1. The top-three teams in the Foothill League earn automatic berths in the CIF Southern Section Northern Division playoffs.

About Connie Jones

Connie and her husband, John, moved to the Santa Clarita Valley almost 30 years ago. Living in Santa Clarita for that long is the direct opposite of Connie’s childhood. She was an Army ‘brat’ who moved every two to three years. Consequently, she has lived in many states and even spent three years in Europe. All three of her kids went to Santa Clarita schools. Connie says the best thing about her job at KHTS is that she is never bored. “If I’m not smiling, Carl is sure to ask why, just before giving me a mind-boggling project.” “KHTS AM-1220 is an integral part of our community and I’m glad to be a part of it. Besides, the DJs will take my request to play Shania Twain’s ‘Still the One’ for my wedding anniversary – gotta love that!”
