Canyon, Valencia Ranked In Top 10 Of CIF Southern Section Preseason Football Poll

khts_sportsThe Canyon and Valencia football teams are ranked in the top 10 of the CIF Southern Section Northern Division preseason poll.

Canyon comes in at No. 4. Valencia, the reigning Foothill League champs, is No. 5. Three teams from the Marmonte League took the top three spots in the poll.

St. Bonaventure is No. 1, followed by Oaks Christian at No. 2 and Westlake at No. 3.

The Vasquez football team is ranked fifth in the Northeast Division preseason poll. Bishop Union from the High Desert League is the No. 1 ranked team.

In youth baseball, the Hart PONY Mustang team lost to the AAU team from Miami, 6-5, in their first game of the National Youth Baseball Championships in Memphis, Tenn.

The Hart team scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, but came up a little short. Alex Burge was 1-for-3 and scored two runs for Hart.

Next up for Hart is the West Seminole team from the Dixie Youth Baseball League today.

The Angels are in Texas for a crucial weekend series with the Rangers. The Angels are two games behind the first-place Rangers in the American League West standings.

The Rangers are coming off a 6-0 loss to the Red Sox. The Angels are riding a season-high six-game winning streak.

Dan Haren gets the start for the Angels tonight. Derek Holland is on the hill for the Rangers.
