Canyon, West Ranch Tracks Teams Set For Foothill League Meet

khts_sportsThe Canyon and West Ranch track and field teams, fresh off the Arcadia Invitational, have a Foothill League dual meet today.

West Ranch’s Ashley Welker is coming off a top-10 performance in the 800 at the Arcadia Invitational. She was eighth in the invitational race. The West Ranch girls 1,600 sprint medley relay team was third in the seeded race.

The West Ranch boys 1,600 sprint medley relay team was fourth in the seeded race at the Arcadia Invitational.

The meet is at West Ranch High School.

The Canyon and West Ranch swim teams are also in action in a meet at the Santa Clarita Aquatics Center today.

In high school softball, Hart lost to La Habra, 8-1, in the Woodbridge Tournament. The Indians open the Foothill League season against Saugus at the Hart PONY Complex today.

The Golden Valley softball team plays Canyon. West Ranch opens Foothill League play against Valencia.

The Foothill League boys volleyball season resumes tonight with Valencia on the road against Saugus. Hart travels to Golden Valley and West Ranch is at Canyon.

The West Ranch and Saugus boys golf teams have a match at the TPC at Valencia. Tee time is at 1 this afternoon.

In college baseball, College of the Canyons is home for a game against Pierce.

In college softball, COC is home against Santa Monica College.

In the major leagues, Saugus High graduate Tom Milone had quite a debut for the Oakland A’s. He pitched eight shutout innings in a 1-0 win over the Seattle Mariners.

Dodgers centerfielder Matt Kemp was selected as the National League player of the week after hitting two home runs and driving in eight runs against the San Diego Padres. The Dodgers won their first three games of the season.

The Dodgers play their home opener against the Pittsburgh Pirates today. Clayton Kershaw, despite fighting the flu, is expected to start for the Dodgers. Kevin Correia is making his first start of the season for the Pirates.

First pitch is at 1:10.
