The CIF Southern Section football playoffs begin tonight with four teams from the Foothill League in first-round action.
Valencia, the Foothill League champions and the No. 4 seed in the Northern Division playoffs, is home against Highland from the Golden League.
Canyon is home in the first round against Palmdale, another team from the Golden League.
West Ranch is making its first appearance in the CIF football playoffs. The Wildcats open on the road against Palos Verdes at Redondo Union High School.
Saugus is the only at-large team in the Northern Division playoffs. The Centurions open on the road against Oaks Christian, the top-seeded team in the Northern Division playoffs and one of the tri-champions of the Marmonte League.

Vasquez High School opens the CIF Southern Section Northeast Division playoffs at home against St. Genevieve.
The Santa Clarita Christian football team is in the quarterfinals of the CIF Southern Section 8-man Division I playoffs. Santa Clarita Christian, the reigning Division I 8-man champions, travel to Laguna Blanca on Saturday.
The West Ranch and Valencia girls tennis teams had their playoff runs come to an end.
West Ranch, the top seed in the CIF Southern Section Division III playoffs, lost to Sage Hill, 10-8.
The Valencia girls, the No. 2 seed in the Division III playoffs, lost at home, 11-7, to St. Margaret’s.
In college football, the UCLA Bruins went through three quarterbacks and lost to Washington, 24-7.
The Bruins compiled only 163 yards of offense and dropped to 2-5 against Pac-10 opponents. UCLA needs to win its final two games, against Arizona State and USC to be bowl eligible at the end of the season.
The Kings are in Buffalo for a game against the Sabres tonight.
The Kings have lost two games in a row, including 5-3, to the Columbus Blue Jackets on Wednesday night. It was the first loss at home for the Kings and the first time this season the Kings have lost two games in a row.
The Sabres are coming off a 4-2 loss to the Washington Capitals. The loss snapped a two-game winning streak for the Sabres.
