CIF Football Playoffs Begin Tonight For 5 SCV Teams

The CIF football playoffs begin tonight with five teams from the Santa Clarita Valley in action.

Santa Clarita High School Football

The Valencia football team opens against Redondo Union in the first round of the Southern Section Northern Division playoffs.

The Vikings are the No. 2 seed in the playoffs. They won the Foothill League title with a perfect 5-0 record.

Redondo Union is an at-large team from the Bay League.

Kickoff is at 7 at Valencia High School.

The Canyon football team is also at home for the first round of the Northern Division playoffs.

The Cowboys play West Torrance. The game starts at 7.

The Hart football team is on the road in the first round. The Indians travel to Paso Robles.

If Hart and Canyon win their games, they will meet in the second round.

The Saugus football team has the toughest test of the Foothill League teams. The Centurions are on the road against Atascadero, the No. 3 seed in the playoffs.

The Santa Clarita Christian football team opens the Southern Section Northeast Division playoffs against Mission Prep.

Mission Prep is the No. 1 seed in the Northeast Division playoffs.

Santa Clarita High School Sports

In volleyball, the Santa Clarita Christian girls won their second round playoff match in five games against Coastal Union in the CIF Southern Section Division 5A playoffs.

The Cardinals play Mammoth in the quarterfinals on Saturday.

The Valencia girls lost to El Dorado in three games and were eliminated in the second round of the CIF Southern Section Division 1A playoffs.

In high school golf, Golden Valley’s Elisa Pierre earned a spot in the CIF Girls State Championship.

She shot a 2-under 70 in the WSCGA Southern California championship at The Golf Club at Rancho California in Murrieta.

The state championship is at Quail Lodge in Carmel.

In basketball, The Master’s College women beat Bethesda, 88-59. Whitney Best scored 20 points and made six 3-pointers for the Lady Mustangs.

The Master’s College improved to 2-1.

Los Angeles Sports Report

In the NHL, the Kings stunned the New York Islanders, 3-2, scoring three goals in the third period.

Tyler Toffoli scored the game winner with 1:27 to play in the game.

The Kings continue their road trip in New Jersey for a game against the Devils tonight.
