COC Football Team Upsets No. 4 Team In California

The College of the Canyons football team pulled off a stunning, 31-28, win over Saddleback College, the No. 4 ranked team in the state.

Eric Kreitz kicked a 36-yard field goal with a little over three minutes to play in the game to give the Cougars a three-point lead. The field goal proved to be the difference in the game.

First-year coach Ted Iacenda won his first game at College of the Canyons.

COC was down 14-0 before rallying for the win. Travion Tucker caught three touchdown passes in the game and had eight catches for 172 yards.

In high school football, Santa Clarita Christian won its first game of the season, 28-14, over Douglass. Derek Lewis scored two touchdowns and a 2-point conversion for the Cardinals.

The Albert Einstein Academy football team won its first game in school history, 42-38, over Indian Springs.

Quarterback Josh Greaves threw four touchdown passes and rushed for two more.

The Trinity Classical Academy football team lost to Mojave, 13-6. Colton Oshiro caught a touchdown pass in the second quarter for the only score for Trinity. The Knights lost for the first time this season.

In auto racing, David Mayhew won both NASCAR Citgo Late Model races at Kern County Raceway Park in Bakersfield.

He has won 15 races and leads the Citgo Late Model standings at the track.

Tim Smith won the NASCAR Pro Late Models race at Kern County.

In baseball, the Dodgers lost to the San Francisco Giants, 4-3, and dropped three of four games to their Northern California rivals over the weekend.

The Dodgers magic number to clinch the National League West championship is four.

The Dodgers are off to Arizona to start a series against the Diamondbacks tonight.
