COC Football Team Wins Home Opener Against Citrus College

khts_sportsThe College of the Canyons football team won its home opener, 38-24, against Citrus College on Saturday night.

Chris Rivas scored a school record three touchdowns for COC. He caught eight passes for 196 yards. One of his touchdowns came on a 90-yard pass from quarterback Justin Arias.

COC running back Joey Garba rushed for 46 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries.

In high school football, Trinity Classical Academy won its first game in school history, 48-0, over Ojai Valley.

Trinity quarterback Dakota Prochnow rushed for two touchdowns and 51 yards. Spencer Klehn, who started at quarterback for Trinity, scored two rushing touchdowns, threw for a third, and gained 109 yards on the ground. He also passed for 73 yards.

The Santa Clarita Christian football team is sitting comfortably at 2-0 after a 58-13 win over Maricopa. The game was stopped at halftime because of a 45-point mercy rule.

Santa Clarita Christian running back Daniel Green scored three touchdowns. He rushed for two and gained 98 yards on the ground. He caught three passes for 79 yards and one touchdown.

In college soccer, The Master’s College men’s team was off to a slow start, but has won its past three games, including two over the weekend.

The Master’s College beat Southwestern of Arizona, 5-1, on Friday and followed with a 7-1 win over Simpson on Saturday.

Brian Gardner had a goal and two assists against Southwestern.

Victor Martinez and Andrew Totaro each scored two goals for The Master’s College against Simpson.

After starting the season ranked No. 2 in the NAIA preseason poll, The Master’s College dropped out of the top 25 after the second week of the season.

The Master’s College women’s team, the 16th-ranked team in the NAIA, kept its undefeated record in tact with a couple wins over the weekend.

The Master’s College women beat Southwestern, 8-0, on Friday, and Simpson, 6-1, on Saturday. The Master’s College women are 7-0-1 after eight games and recorded six shutouts in a row in that span.

The UCLA Bruins football team finally woke up on offense, beating the 23rd ranked Houston Cougars, 31-13, at the Rose Bowl. UCLA running back Johnathan Franklin had a break out game with 158 yards on the ground and three touchdowns.

The USC Trojans football team had an easy time with Minnesota in a 32-21 win. Robert Woods returned a kickoff 97 yards for a touchdown for the 18th-ranked Trojans. Running back Allen Bradford rushed for 131 yards and a touchdown.

It looks like there might be a little fight left in the Dodgers after all.

The Dodgers beat the visiting Colorado Rockies, 7-6, in extra innings. A.J. Ellis drove in the game-winning run with an RBI single in the 11th inning.

Andre Ethier and Matt Kemp each hit home runs in the game. The Dodgers snapped a four-game losing streak and still dropped two of three to the Rockies over the weekend.

The Dodgers have the day off today and start a three-game series with the San Diego Padres on Tuesday.
