COC Golf Team Tied For First In Conference Standings

Davis Kirkland shoots 71 to lead COC at Brookside Golf Course.

It could not be much tighter in the Western State Conference golf standings.

The College of the Canyons golf team is tied for first in conference after a one-stroke win at Brookside Golf Course in Pasadena on Monday. Davis Kirkland shot a 71 to lead COC in the five-team tournament. Ventura College finished second, followed by Santa Barbara College. Santa Barbara is tied with COC atop the conference standings.

In boys volleyball, Canyon swept Chaminade in three games. Matt Veiga had 19 kills for Canyon.

In high school softball, Saugus lost to Los Alamitos, 3-2. The Valencia softball team is on the road to face El Modena of Orange and Golden Valley travels to Chaminade today.

The high school ice hockey season started last night at the Ice Station. Valencia, Hart, Canyon and Saugus have club teams in the eight-team league. Hart’s Kyle Bowen had a hat trick in his team’s 5-2 win over Saugus. Canyon lost to Antelope Valley, 7-4, and Valencia lost to Bakersfield, 3-1.
