COC Men’s And Women’s Cross Country Teams Qualify For State Meet

The College of the Canyons men’s and women’s cross country teams qualified for the state finals after impressive finishes at the Southern California championships at Central Park.

College Of The Canyons Sports

The COC men finished in ninth place at the meet. Robert Pion was the highest-finishing runner from the College of the Canyons. He was 14th in 21 minutes, 21.02 seconds.

San Bernardino Valley College won the meet. Omar Caro from San Bernardino Valley College won the race in 20 minutes, 44.19 seconds.

The COC women finished in seventh place at the meet. Dominique Dowell was the top runner from the College of the Canyons. She was 18th in 19 minutes, 39.39 seconds.

Orange Coast College won the women’s meet. Laura Aceves from East LA College won the race in 18 minutes, 35.78 seconds.

Santa Clarita High School Sports

The Saugus boys and girls cross country teams wrapped up the Foothill League season in championship form.

The Saugus boys, led by Brian Zabilski, won the Foothill League championship. He was one of four runners from Saugus to finish in the top 10 at the league championship meet at Central Park.

The Saugus girls won their eighth Foothill League title in a row. Samantha Ortega led the way for the Centurions, winning the race in 17 minutes, 22.25 seconds.

Ortega has won five league meet races in a row and repeated as the individual league champion.

Santa Clarita Sports

The Master’s College men’s cross country team won the Golden State Athletic Conference championship at Fairview Park in Costa Mesa.

Joshua Sherfey from The Master’s College was fourth in the race in 25 minutes, 37.52 seconds. His teammate, John Hurd, was fifth in 25 minutes, 49.67 seconds.

The Mustangs moved up to No. 15 in the NAIA poll.

The Master’s College women finished in second place in the Golden State Athletic Conference championship meet behind Biola University.

The Lady Mustangs are ranked No. 7 in the NAIA.

Los Angeles Sports Update

In the NBA, the Clippers beat the visiting Minnesota Timberwolves, 109-107. The Clippers are 3-0 at home.

Next up for the Clippers are the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday.

In the NHL, the Kings are in Buffalo for a game against the Sabres tonight. The Kings beat the Sabres, 2-0, at Staples Center on Thursday night. They are coming off a 5-1 win over the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday.
