COC Men’s Basketball Basketball Team Wins Conference Opener

khts_sportsThe College of the Canyons men’s basketball team won its Western State Conference opener, 83-68, over LA Valley  College. COC improved to 10-6 on the season with the win.

The Cougars have won five of their past six games. They will play Citrus College on Saturday.

The COC women lost their conference opener, 78-45, to Valley. The women drop to 10-8.

The Lady Cougars have lost two games in a row. They will try to get back on a winning track against Citrus College on Saturday.

The Hart girls basketball team lost to Granada Hills, 71-41. Breze Kimble scored 17 points for Hart in the loss.

In high school soccer, the Valencia girls lost to Granada Hills, 1-0. Carley Bracken scored the only goal of the game for Granada Hills.

Three boys basketball  teams from the Santa Clarita Valley are in action tonight.

Valencia is home for a game against Clovis North. Santa Clarita Christian is home for a game against Frazier Mountain. The Trinity Classical Academy is also home for a game against San Fernando Valley Academy.

On the girls side, Golden Valley is on the road and plays St. Bonaventure in Ventura.

In the Orange Bowl, West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith threw six touchdown passes in a high-scoring, 70-33, win over Clemson.

West Virginia set a record with the most points scored in any bowl game. Smith set a record with the most touchdown passes thrown in any bowl game.

The Mountaineers broke the record for most points in a bowl game set by Baylor six days ago when the Bears scored 67 points in the Alamo Bowl.
