COC Men’s Golf Team Wins Conference Match In Glendale

khts_sportsThe College of the Canyons men’s golf team, led by Valencia High grad Alex Mancuso, won a Western State Conference match at Oakmont Country Club in Glendale by nine strokes.

Mancuso shot an even-par 72. COC won, 376-385, over Santa Barbara. Ventura College was third at 396.

Dominic Lingua shot 2-over par, 74, for COC. Colin Wheeler and Chris Bango each shot 5-over, 77s.

The Golden Valley baseball team won its second Foothill League game in a row, this time upsetting West Ranch, 5-4.

Golden Valley scored three runs in the first inning and starter Josh Smith scattered six hits and struck out three in pitching a complete game.

The Saugus baseball team shut out Canyon, 6-0. Saugus starter Cameron Castillo gave his team six shutout innings, surrendered only one hit, walked one and struck out four.

Michale Soucy drove in two runs in the first inning for Saugus. Matthew Emerson knocked in two more runs for Saugus in a four-run fourth inning.

The Hart baseball team jumped out to an early lead and beat Valencia 8-3.

Hart scored six runs in the first two innings. Pat Valaika was 2-for-3 and drove in four runs for Hart.

The Foothill League softball season resumes today with undefeated Valencia and Saugus at home for their games.

Valencia at 2-0 will host Hart. Saugus, also 2-0 in league play, is home against Canyon. Golden Valley is on the road against West Ranch.

The Valencia boys volleyball team is at home tonight to play Hart in a Foothill League match. Canyon is on the road against Saugus and Golden Valley is at West Ranch.

The Foothill League boys golf teams are at Robinson Ranch for a Foothill League match.

The Lakers are at Staples Center for Game 2 of their NBA playoff series against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Kobe Bryant scored 21 points in Game 1, but was 6-of-19 from the field. Perhaps he can make a few more shots in Game 2 and give the Thunder no hope of winning a game in this series.

The Kings are up 2-1 against the Vancouver in the Stanley Cup playoffs. Michal Handzus scored two goals in the Kings 5-3 win over the Canucks. Both his goals came in the second period, when the Kings took a 4-1 lead.

Drew Doughty scored a goal in the first period and had three assists.

Game 4 is on Wednesday at Staples Center.

The Dodgers are in Cincinnati to start a three-game series against the Reds. Chad Billingsley is on the hill for the Dodgers. The Reds counter with Homer Bailey. Pregame starts at 3:30 on AM 1220, KHTS.
