COC Men’s Golf Team Wins Conference Opener

khts_sportsThe College of the Canyons men’s golf team won its Western State Conference opener by 11 strokes over Bakersfield College.

The COC men shot 370 at Valencia Country Club. Aaron West was 2-under par, at 70, to lead COC and all golfers in the tournament. Derek Larson was 1-under par at 71 and James Holley was 1-over par at 73 for COC.

Ventura College came in third with a 386.

The Trinity Classical Academy boys basketball team lost to San Fernando Academy, 70-57. James Brooks scored 35 points and had 12 rebounds for Trinity.

The Trinity boys basketball team is back in action again today against Newbury Park Adventist.

There is a full slate of Foothill League basketball games today as well.

The Golden Valley boys are on the road for a game against Hart. The Valencia boys are at Saugus and the Canyon boys are home against West Ranch.

The Golden Valley girls basketball team is at Hart. The Valencia girls are at Saugus and the West Ranch girls are at Canyon.

The Santa Clarita Christian girls basketball team travels to Milken.

The Hart boys soccer team has a crucial Foothill League game against Golden Valley today. The Hart boys, in first place in the Foothill League standings, need a win over last place Golden Valley to maintain its lead.

West Ranch, the second-place team in the Foothill League, is on the road against Canyon, tied for third place in league.

Valencia, the team tied with Canyon for third place, is on the road and will play Saugus.

The Saugus girls soccer team will look to keep its undefeated Foothill League record intact against Valencia. The Hart girls are on the road against Golden Valley and the Canyon girls are at West Ranch.

The Santa Clarita Christian girls soccer team plays at LA Baptist.

The Master’s College men’s basketball will look to snap a two-game losing streak against Biola tonight.

The Master’s College women’s basketball team saw their three-game winning streak snapped against Concordia on Saturday night. The Mustangs will try to get back on a winning track against Biola.

The Valencia Flyers ice hockey team posted a pair of wins against the Bakersfield Junior Condors over the weekend. The Flyers won the first game, 8-2, and the second, 5-1.

Cameron Randles scored two goals and had an assist in the first game against the Junior Condors. Taylor Abbott scored two goals and had an assist in the second game.

The Flyers are home for a game against San Diego at the Ice Station on Friday night. They travel to San Diego to wrap up a two-game weekend series on Saturday.

The Lakers are 2-0 to start their seven-game road trip after beating the Memphis Grizzlies, 93-84. Lamar Odom recorded a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds off the bench.

Kobe Bryant scored 19 points making only six of 17 shots from the field. Six Lakers scored in double figures. Pau Gasol had 17 and nine rebounds.

Next stop for the Lakers is Boston for a game against the Celtics on Thursday night.

The Dodgers signed veteran infielder Aaron Miles to a minor league contract. The 34-year-old Miles will be competing with veteran Juan Castro and prospect Ivan de Jesus for the back-up infielder spot on the Dodgers.

Miles spent last season with the St. Louis Cardinals and hit .281. He has eight years of major league experience, seven in the National League.
