COC Men’s Soccer Team Knocks Off Cerritos College In Playoffs

khts_sportsThe College of the Canyons men’s soccer team beat third-seeded Cerritos College, 2-1, in the quarterfinals of the Southern California Regional playoffs.

Victor Rodriguez scored both goals in the second half for COC, the sixth-seeded team in the playoffs.

COC plays Santa Ana, the No. 2 seed in the playoffs, in the semifinals on Saturday.

In college basketball, The Master’s College men’s team won its Golden State Athletic Conference opener, 83-75, over San Diego Christian.

Joey Fuca led The Master’s College with 26 points and was 14-for-14 from the free-throw line. Leif Karlberg scored 20 points, sinking four 3-pointers.

The Master’s College women also won their Golden State Athletic Conference opener, 103-100, against San Diego Christian.

Four players from The Master’s College scored in double figures. Erica Inge led the way with 31 points and was 13-for-13 from the free-throw line.

Theresa Brown had 18 points and nine rebounds for The Master’s College.

The College of the Canyons men’s team pulled out a 77-70 win over Grossmont College. COC snapped a two-tame losing streak and improved to 4-3.

The COC men begin the Rancho Vista Classic tournament on Dec. 3.

The UCLA Bruins are in the semifinals of the preseason NIT in New York and will play Villanova tonight.

In the NBA, the Lakers beat the visiting Chicago Bulls, 98-91, to improve to 8-1 at Staples Center and 13-2 overall.

Kobe Bryant scored 20 points and the Lakers had to rally in the fourth quarter with a 17-2 run to win the game.

Derrick Rose scored 30 points for the Bulls. Shannon Brown came off the bench to score 21 points for the Lakers.

In ice hockey, the Valencia Flyers lost to the Long Beach Bombers, 5-2. It was the eighth loss in a row for the Flyers.

Edy Keshishian had a goal and an assist for the Flyers. Bryan Fiol scored a goal and David Tagvoryan had two assists.

The Kings are in Montreal for a game against the Canadiens tonight. The Kings are in a bit of a funk, losing four of their past five games.

The Canadiens are coming off a 3-2 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers on Monday.
