COC Softball Moves To 10-0 In Conference Play – Santa Clarita Sports Report – April 6, 2018

Softball: The Cougars continue to roll in conference play with another commanding 9-1 victory. Jordan Vallejo went 2-for-3 with four RBIs and a double, and Joy Velox dropped her ERA to 2.37 with five shutout innings (she’s 5-2 on the season).

“The team is excited, but we’re staying focused,” said freshman outfielder Carly Moreno after the win.

“We have been working real hard coming into these conference games. All the work from summer and fall ball is finally paying off and making us push towards [the] playoffs.”

COC is 10-0 in the Western State Conference and 17-10 overall, and hosts Mt. San Antonio in a makeup game this afternoon ahead of Saturday’s double-header against Santa Barbara. First pitch against Mt. SAC is scheduled for 1:30.

Baseball: After getting shutout at Antelope Valley 8-0 on Tuesday, the Cougars came back with a 7-0 blanking of their own in the middle game of the series on Thursday. Batters 1-5 each had multi-hit games, including Calvin Estrada’s team leading 7th home run of the season.

COC is back at Antelope Valley College for the rubber match on Saturday. First pitch at 1:00.

West Ranch: 4

The Wildcats have had a rough time in the Boras Classic, losing their third game in as many days to drop to 11-5 on the season. The lone bright spot was Will Chambers seventh home run of the season, tying him with Hart’s Cole Roederer for the SCV lead.

Woodbridge: 5

Valencia: 4 (F/9)

The Vikings (7-9) have had an equally tough time in the Ryan Lemmon Invitational, losing their third game of the tournament in extra innings on Thursday to end their tournament.

Canyon: 5

Colton: 4

The Cowboys picked up their first win of the Beaumont Spring Break Tournament in the Inland Empire. Cebastian Arriago and CJ Dowell each had 2-RBI doubles in the win.

Saugus: 7

Royal: 3

JP Polanco allowed two runs on three hits in six innings of work while fanning seven batters to earn the win for the Centurions (7-6-1). Tony Jacob hit his first home run of the season.

The Dodgers (2-5) are up in San Francisco with a weekend series against the Giants. Will manager Dave Roberts tweak the lineup of a team that was shutout in the final game of a sweep in Arizona?

Kenta Maeda takes the mound against Derek Holland with first pitch coming at 7:15 pm.

After this weekend they’ll have already played their rivals seven times.
