“It is an amazing feat when your team can win an academic award,” said College of the Canyons head coach Gary Peterson. “It is even more impressive when you can also win a state championship in the same year. I am very proud of the women of the 2007 team and applaud their pursuit of success in the classroom and on the golf course.”

The award is presented to a sports team that collectively maintained a 3.0 grade point average or better and excelled in athletic competition.
The 2007 women’s golf team had a 3.09 GPA and won the Western State Conference, Southern California and state championships.

Ashley Redmond, Darlene Bognot, Tessa Harp, Jenny Lee, Eleanna Tan and Ashley Windsor were members of the 2007 COC team.

Redmond and Bognot are on scholarship and playing at Morehead State University in Kentucky. Harp is a member of the Chicago State University golf team. Lee turned pro after her stay at COC. Tan transferred to UCLA where she is a pre-med major. Windsor is expected to return to COC in the fall for her sophomore season.

The team will be presented with the award at the Pepsi Celebration of Student Athletes luncheon at the 12th Annual CCCAA Convention on April 2 in Ontario, Calif.
