The COC men’s team got 27 points and 18 rebounds from Justin Smith in an 89-68 win over Santa Monica College. Brannon Bradley added 22 points and 11 rebounds for COC.

Charity Smith, a sophomore forward on the COC women’s team, earned the California Community College Athletic Association’s Women Athlete of the Month award for January.

Smith, who played at Palmdale High School before starting her college career at COC, averaged 16.8 points and 9.8 rebounds per game to lead the Lady Cougars to an 8-0 record in January.

“Charity Smith has exceeded our expectations of her and is the main reason for our recent success,” said College of the Canyons head coach Greg Herrick. “She is a model player on and off the court and we will miss her leadership when she completes this season in a few weeks."
