COC Women’s Golf Team Wins 3rd WSC Tournament

khts_sportsThe College of the Canyons women’s golf team won its third Western State Conference golf match of the season and its 12th in a row.

The COC women shot 327 and beat Bakersfield by 14 shots. Glendale College was third at 344.

COC’s Tiara Wells shot a 4-over par, 76, to lead all golfers. Teammate Hannah Lee was 8-over par at 80 and Cindi Rohn was 13-over par at 85.

In high school golf, the Hart girls finished fourth in the Ayala Fall Classic at Los Serranos Country Club in Chino Hills.

Brenna Carlson and Amanda Corr each shot 6-over par, 80s, to lead Hart, which won the tournament last year.

Palm Desert won the tournament this time around, shooting an incredible 6-over par, 302, as a team. Bow Salotti was one of three golfers to shoot under par for Palm Desert. She had the low round at 4-under 72.

The West Ranch girls lost to Thousand Oaks by 26 strokes at Vista Valencia Golf Course.

Sarah Hong and Jackie Kang each shot 39s to lead West Ranch.

The next golf match is today’s Foothill League match at the Balboa Golf Course in Encino.

In high school football, the Valencia football team remained as the No. 2 team in the CIF Southern Section Northern Division poll. Valencia is off to a 2-0 start, but will get its first test of the season against Palmdale, the fifth-ranked team in the Northern Division, on Friday night.

The Canyon football moved up a couple spots to No. 7 after a 35-0 win over Highland. Canyon has a tough road game against an undefeated Camarillo team on Friday night.

Westlake is the No. 1 team in the Northern Division poll.

The Santa Clarita Christian football team is ranked No. 3 in the Division I 8-man poll. Faith Baptist has the top spot in the 8-man poll, followed by Windward at No. 2.

On Monday Night Football, the New Orleans Saints beat the San Francisco 49ers, 25-22, on a field goal as time expired.

Saints kicker Garrett Hartley nailed a 37-yard field goal after the 49ers tied the game with a little over a minute to play.

Saints quarterback Drew Brees threw for 254 yards and two touchdowns.

Saints running back Reggie Bush caught four passes for 30 yards and a touchdown, but left the game with a knee injury.

The Dodgers start a three-game series with the San Diego Padres tonight at Dodger Stadium. Chad Billingsley will get the start for the Dodgers. Clayton Richard will be on the mound for the Padres.

Pregame starts at 6:30 on AM 1220, KHTS.
