COC Women’s Golf Team Wins North South Tournament

khts_sportsThe College of the Canyons women’s golf team won the North South Tournament by eight strokes over Sacramento City College at Morro Bay.

The two-day tournament included teams from Northern and Southern California.

COC shot 625 as a team. Tiara Wells shot the low round with a 73 on Monday for COC. Taylor Gould had the low round for COC at 75 on Sunday. Gould had a two-day total of 154.

Hae Yung Kim carded 78s on both days of the tournament for a 156.

The Master’s College women’s soccer team, the 12th-ranked team in the NAIA, routed California Baptist, 5-1, in Riverside.

Emily Bruton scored a hat trick for The Master’s College in the upset over the fourth-ranked team in the NAIA.

Alissa Adkins added two goals for The Master’s College.

The Mustangs are 10-0-1 overall and 3-0 in Golden State Athletic Conference play.

The Master’s College men’s soccer team lost to California Baptist, 4-0. Cal Baptist, the seventh-ranked team in the NAIA, took a 2-0 first half lead and scored two more goals in the second half. Heitor Santeram had three assists and four different Cal Baptist players scored goals.

The College of the Canyons women’s soccer team beat LA Mission College, 7-0, and won its first Western State Conference game of the season. Emma Wright and Michelle Malette each scored two goals for COC.

The College of the Canyons women are back in action today against LA Valley College.

The College of the Canyon men’s soccer team lost to Allan Hancock College, 2-0. COC is 0-1-1 after two Western State Conference games. The Cougars travel to Glendale College for a game tonight.

In high school volleyball, the Trinity girls team swept Westmark School in three games. Emily Sargadia had nine kills and 10 aces for Trinity.

The Lakers lost to the Minnesota Timberwolves, 111-92, in a preseason game played in London, England. Lamar Odom led the Lakers with 17 points and six rebounds.

Michael Beasley scored a game-high 21 points for the Timberwolves.

In football, the New England Patriots scored 35 points in the second half and rolled over the Miami Dolphins, 41-14. Patrick Chung blocked two kicks and returned an interception for a touchdown for the Patriots.

In hockey, the Kings agreed to a two-year contract extension with goalie Jonathan Bernier. He will back-up starter Jonathan Quick this season.

Bernier appeared in three NHL games for the Kings last season. He was 3-0 with a 1.30 goals against average and a .957 save percentage.
