COC Women’s Soccer Team Advances To Round 2 Of So Cal Regional

The College of the Canyons women’s soccer team moved into the second round of the Southern California Regional playoffs after a 2-1 win over Mt. San Antonio College.

Stacey Atwater scored two goals in the second half for COC. Lizzie Rivas assisted on the second goal in the 90th minute.

The Lady Cougars, the No. 4 seed in the playoffs, will play San Diego Miramar today in the second round of the Southern California Regionals.

The Master’s College women lost to Cal State San Marcos, 1-0, in the opening round of the NAIA national tournament.

The Lady Mustangs were eliminated from the tournament. They finish their season with a 15-6 record.

In college volleyball, the College of the Canyons women are the No. 10 seed in the Southern California Regional playoffs and will play Cypress College tonight in the first round.

Cypress is the No. 7 seed and has a 16-7 record.

 The Master’s College women swept Cal State San Marcos in three sets in the opening round of the NAIA national volleyball tournament. The Lady Mustangs move on to the national tournament site in Sioux City, Iowa.

Santa Clarita High School Sports

In cross country, the Saugus boys won the CIF Southern Section Division 2 championship at Mt. San Antonio College, 83-118, over second-place Dos Pueblos.

The Saugus boys won their first CIF championship since 2010 and the fourth title overall for the school.

The Saugus girls finished in sixth place in the Southern Section Division 2 race and qualified for the state meet in Fresno. The Centurions have won seven CIF state championships.

The CIF State Cross Country Championships are in Fresno on Saturday.

The College of the Canyons women’s team finished in eighth place in the California Community College Cross Country state championship at Woodward Park in Fresno.

Dominique Dowell was the top-finishing runner from COC. She finished in 12th place.

The COC men finished in a tie for ninth place in the state championship meet. Rodrigo Ornelas was the top finisher for COC in 24th place.

The Master’s College men’s cross country team finished in 15th place at the NAIA national championship meet in Lawrence, Kan. Matthew Crichton was 91st in the race.

The Master’s College women were 14th in the NAIA national meet. Lady Mustangs runner Katrina Graham was 39th in the race.

Los Angeles Sports Report

In the NHL, the Kings beat the Vancouver Canucks, 3-2 in overtime. Anze Kopitar scored the game-winner 48 seconds into the overtime period.

The Kings are off to San Jose for a game against the Sharks on Wednesday night.
