COC Women’s Soccer Team Eliminated From CCCAA Playoffs

khts_sportsThe College of the Canyons women’s soccer team lost to San Bernardino Valley College, 2-1, and was eliminated from the California Community College Athletic  Associations playoffs.

Brittani Stumbo scored the only goal for COC in the second half of the Southern California Regional. San Bernardino took a 2-0 lead in the second half after the two teams played to a scoreless tie in the first half.

COC finishes with a 14-4-3 record.

In golf, Hart High grad Jason Gore advanced to the final round of the PGA Q-School at La Quinta. Saugus High grad Nick Delio didn’t make the cut at the four-day qualifier.

Gore, who started on the PGA tour in 1997, shot a 9-under at Bear Creek Golf Club in Murrieta and finished in second place to qualify for the Q-School final.

Delio was 1-under and finished in 44th place in Plantanation, Fla. The top-20 golfesr advanced to the final round of the PGA Q-School.

In college basketball, the College of the Canyons lost to Saddleback College, 77-53. Brad Wyche had 10 points and two assists for COC.

In ice hockey, the Valencia Flyers lost, 4-3, to the San Diego Gulls. Austin Ehrlich scored two goals for the Flyers in the loss.

Next up for the Flyers are the Long Beach Bombers at Valencia Ice Station on Saturday night.

In the NHL, the Kings got a rare goal from defenseman Willie Mitchell in the third period and beat the Blues, 3-2. Mitchell scored his first goal of the season and the 25th of his career.

The Kings have won four of their past five games and handed the Blues their second loss in a row.
