COC Women’s Volleyball Advances In Southern California Regional

The College of the Canyons women’s volleyball team beat Cypress College, 3-1, in the first round of the Southern California Regional playoffs.

COC entered the playoffs as the No. 10 seed. The Lady Cougars play Grossmont College, the No. 2 seed, in the second round on Saturday.

College of the Canyons and Master’s College Sports

In soccer, the College of the Canyons women lost to San Diego Miramar, 1-0, in the second round of the Southern California Regional playoffs.

Miramar scored a goal in the second half.

COC goaltender Katherine Koury made four saves in the loss.

The Lady Cougars were eliminated in the second round of the Southern California Regional for the third year in a row. They finish with a 17-2-4 record.

In college basketball, The Master’s College women beat William Jessup, 69-42. Jacquelyn Marshall scored 12 points and had 10 rebounds for The Lady Mustangs.

The Master’s College women improved to 5-2.

Santa Clarita High School Sports

In high school football, Robert Fisher has resigned as coach at Golden Valley, according to a report in The Signal.

Fisher coached Golden Valley to a 2-8 record in 2013. He has a 3-27 record as the Golden Valley coach over the past three seasons.

Santa Clarita Sports

In cross country, four runners on The Master’s College women’s team were selected as NAIA scholar athletes.

Micayla Frankian, Jessica Hawley, Katrina Graham and Hannah Kellerman are among the 296 NAIA scholar athletes in women’s cross country.

John Hurd from The Master’s College was also selected as an NAIA scholar athlete.

To be selected, a student athlete must have a 3.5 grade point average and be a junior in college.

In women’s volleyball, Sam Dougherty was selected to the All-Golden State Athletic Conference team.

Teammate Rebecca Peluffo was selected as a Golden State Athletic Conference scholar athlete.

The Master’s College women’s volleyball team is playing in the NAIA national tournament in Sioux City, Iowa. The Lady Mustangs, ranked No. 16 in the NAIA, play Mid America Nazarene in the second round on Tuesday.

Los Angeles Sports Report

In the NBA, the Lakers lost to the Washington Wizards, 116-111, in their first game of a three-game road trip.

The Lakers are in Brooklyn for a game against the Nets tonight.
