College Of The Canyons’ Antonio Guy Receives All-American Recognition

College of the Canyons defensive lineman Antonio Guy was selected as an All-American.

Guy made the annual California Community College Coaches Association first team on defense.

The sophomore had 44 tackles, 3.5 sacks and forced four fumbles in 11 games for COC.

He was also selected as the National Division, Northern Conference defensive player of the year.

Wes Johnson and Ryan McAleenon from College of the Canyons were selected to the All-California Region IV first team defense.

Valencia High graduate Brock Vereen, a defensive back for the University of Minnesota, was selected to the All-Big 10 Conference first team on defense.

Minnesota has an 8-4 record and will play in the Texas Bowl against Syracuse on Dec. 27.

Vereen was also invited to play in the East-West Shrine Game on Jan. 18.

Vereen’s older brother Shane Vereen, another Valencia High graduate, is a running back with the New England Patriots.

Los Angeles Sports Report

In the NBA, the Lakers will be without the services of Kobe Bryant for at least six weeks.

He broke a bone in his left knee and will have to sit out until February.

Bryant missed the first 19 games of the season recovering from surgery on his Achilles tendon.

He played six games and averaged 13.8 points.

The Lakers play the Minnesota Timberwolves tonight at Staples Center.

In the NHL, the Kings beat the visiting San Jose Sharks, 4-1. Jeff Carter and Dwight King each scored their 10th goals of the season.

Goaltender Martin Jones improved to 7-0 for the Kings.

Next up for the Kings are the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday.
