Disappointing Indy Lights Race For Bryan Herta Autosport

sportslocalIt was an admittedly disappointing day for Bryan Herta Autosport in the Indy Lights race in Toronto over the weekend.

Bryan Herta’s driver Daniel Herrington started last in the race after getting penalized in qualifying, but worked his way to a top-10 finish despite a poor pit stop and no cautions in the race. Herta, a Valencia resident who owns the race team, said it was a missed opportunity even though his driver finished ninth.

Over at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale, Travis Thirkettle of Newhall posted a top-five finish in one of two NASCAR Super Late Model races at the track. He was fourth in one race, 13th in the second race.

Fourteen-year-old golfer Alison Lee of Valencia shot a 1-under par 70 on the final day of the U.S. Women’s Open Championship in Pennsylvania on Sunday and finished in tied for 26th place. It was a great run for the incoming freshman at Valencia High School.

Speaking of golf, the Summer Meltdown golf tournament takes place today at the TPC at Valencia. Proceeds from the tournament benefit the Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center. Community and business leaders from through the Santa Clarita Valley, including Lockheed Federal Credit Union, Denny’s restaurants, Union Bank, MB2 Raceway and KHTS, have contributed to the tournament.

The shotgun start is at 9 this morning.

About Connie Jones

Connie and her husband, John, moved to the Santa Clarita Valley almost 30 years ago. Living in Santa Clarita for that long is the direct opposite of Connie’s childhood. She was an Army ‘brat’ who moved every two to three years. Consequently, she has lived in many states and even spent three years in Europe. All three of her kids went to Santa Clarita schools. Connie says the best thing about her job at KHTS is that she is never bored. “If I’m not smiling, Carl is sure to ask why, just before giving me a mind-boggling project.” “KHTS AM-1220 is an integral part of our community and I’m glad to be a part of it. Besides, the DJs will take my request to play Shania Twain’s ‘Still the One’ for my wedding anniversary – gotta love that!”
