Opening Day at Dodger Stadium set for Monday, April 13 against Giants.
[view:node_ad=5]The Los Angeles Dodgers today announced their preliminary schedule for the 2009 regular season, which begins in San Diego Monday, April 6, and features Opening Day at Dodger Stadium a week later, Monday, April 13 versus San Francisco . Two days later, the Dodgers will celebrate Opening Night on Jackie Robinson Day, Wednesday, April 15. In addition, the Dodgers will play three pre-season games at Dodger Stadium, plus one in San Francisco , before beginning their 52nd season in Los Angeles and 48th at Dodger Stadium.
The club’s Spring Training schedule, their first in the Cactus League, will be announced in the future.
Dodger Stadium will host a variety of baseball games before the home opener. The World Baseball Classic Semifinal and Final games will be played March 21-23. Then fans get their first LA look at the Dodgers Thursday, April 2, versus the Angels, followed by games against the Milwaukee Brewers Friday and Saturday, April 3 and 4. The Dodgers then travel to San Francisco on Sunday, April 5, for the finale of their pre-season schedule before heading to San Diego .
The Oakland Athletics and Seattle Mariners will visit Dodger Stadium for interleague play, as will the Angels in the traditional home-and-home series. Interleague play on the road will also take the Dodgers to Texas and Chicago, where their series with the White Sox honors the 50th anniversary of the 1959 World Series, the Dodgers’ first world championship after moving to California in 1958.
The Dodgers will play at home on Cinco de Mayo and Mother’s Day. They close the regular season at home with a three-game series against the Colorado Rockies after a 10-game road trip, their longest of the season.
The longest homestand is 11 games, starting with a Dia Del Nino tribute April 30 and concluding with a special Mothers Day Celebration May 10. The Dodgers also have a 10-game homestand starting July 16 through 26 and a 9-game stretch starting June 1 through 10.
Fans that place a deposit for 2009 season tickets now can lock in 2008 prices and receive the opportunity to buy World Baseball Classic and Spring Training tickets before the general public.
