Santa Clarita High School Baseball

Friday Scoreboard:

West Ranch: 10

Valencia: 1

Maybe the Wildcats just prefer playing on Valencia’s field? Whatever the case, West Ranch won the season series over their rival 2-1 with both wins coming on the road.

It was a slugging clinic in the rout, with three home runs, including Will Chambers Santa Clarita leading ninth of the season.

Hart: 7

Canyon: 5

Hart continues to find way to win, this time scoring five runs in the top of the seventh inning to stun Canyon, 7-5.

The Cowboys rallied in the bottom of the inning, scoring three, but came up just short. The Indians are 12-2 and in control of the Foothill League with two games to play.

Saugus: 11

Golden Valley: 3

Ten different Centurions collected hits, as Saugus moved to 8-6 in league play and within striking distance of an at-large playoff berth.

Los Angeles Dodgers

The Dodgers (15-17) found some swagger on Friday night down in Monterrey, Mexico.

Number 1 prospect Walker Buehler has a lot to do with it. The 24-year-old tossed six innings of hitless baseball against the San Diego Padres, striking out eight batters before giving way to Tony Cingrani, Yimi Garcia and Adam Liberatore (one inning each in relief) to finish off the no-no.

Los Angeles now has 23 no-hitters, the most in baseball. It comes against the hapless Padres who have zero no-hitters in franchise history.

Chris Taylor and Kike Hernandez hit back-to-back jacks in the second inning to pace the offense in the 4-0 win. Just like that, the Dodgers are back on a three-game winning streak.

They have two more against the Padres down in Monterrey, with Kenta Maeda starting today’s matinee. First pitch is at 4:10.

Los Angeles Angels

While the Dodgers were offering zero hits to the Padres, an Angels future Hall-of-Famer was becoming the fourth player in Major League Baseball to hit 600 home runs and 3,000 hits in a career.

Albert Pujols, aka “The Machine”, hit a single into shallow right field to get to the historic mark of 3,000 hits. For a former 13th Round pick, it is an accomplishment that can’t be understated, joining Hank Aaron, Willie Mays and Alex Rodriguez as the only players to do so with 600 home runs, and 32nd player to reach 3,000 overall.

The Angels blanked the Seattle Mariners, 5-0, and are 20-12 on the season good for a tie for first place with the defending champion Houston Astros in the AL West.
