Dodgers Dismantle Cubs 6-1 For Franchise Record Sixth Straight Postseason Win

The Dodgers are on the verge of the World Series after dismantling the Chicago Cubs in Game 3 to take a commanding 3-0 NLCS lead. Yu Darvish and Chris Taylor starred in the win, and the LA bullpen is up to 16 2/3 innings of shutout baseball in the postseason.

The best 50 game stretch in Major League Baseball in over 100 hundred years. A 1-16 slump and worst losing streak in 25 years.

And now, the best playoff winning streak in team history, with six consecutive victories to open the 2017 MLB Postseason. Five more wins means the first Dodgers championship in 29 years.

It’s hard to argue against this being the most thrilling Los Angeles Dodgers year in history. Record-breaking highs and lows throughout the season have made for quite the rollercoaster. Just a month ago, the lows plagued the minds of fans, unsure if the team could find its spark again in time for October.

But October Baseball is a different animal, a different season, and LA has responded with playing its best baseball all season.

The most important component to the 6-1 Game 3 victory was the manner in which the Dodgers won. No errors on defense and aggressive, yet mindful offense. The Cubs had two errors, five walks and multiple wild pitches. The Dodgers played mistake-free, sound baseball. The Cubs, on the other hand, unraveled. It’s a testament to manager Dave Roberts and his staff for pushing the right buttons and getting the best out of the club.

Tuesday, it was the unheralded Chris Taylor who sparked the offense. The former Seattle Mariner homered for the second time in the NLCS, going 2-for-5 with two RBIs. He’s batting .333 with a 1.000 slugging percentage. What’s more, he’s hit a home run in the series while playing in the outfield and at shortstop. Additionally, Andre Ethier went yard in his first postseason start.

Though the Dodgers were able to tack on several more runs, the two solo shots by Taylor and Ethier were all Yu Darvish and the bullpen needed in another dominant performance on the mound.

Yu Darvish has been everything the Dodgers hoped he would be this postseason. Tasked with being the third starter (meaning most, if not all, of his work would come on the road), Darvish has delivered in back-to-back Game 3’s. He owns a 2-0 record with an icy 1.59 ERA. He’s pitched 11 1/3 innings, striking out 14 batters and allowing only two hits.

The 31-year-old Japanese interntaional has been as valuable as any player in Dodger Blue.

Tonight, Alex Wood looks to slam the door shut on the defending World Series champions. It will be the first action for Wood this postseason after being one of the best starting pitchers in the National League during the regular season (16-3 with a 2.72 ERA). He’ll face Jake Arrieta, the 2015 NL Cy Young winner.
