Dodgers Holding Off Colorado With Five Games Remaining

The Dodgers are playing their best baseball with the postseason just a week away. Last night’s win in Arizona made the Dodgers 10-2 since September 12th. They’ve outscored their opponents 28-6 in the last three games.

As the countdown to the end of the 2018 season reaches five, the Dodgers find themselves in a favorable position for the postseason, though the Colorado Rockies will not be letting up (they are on a four game winning streak).

Los Angeles owns a 1.5 game lead over Colorado for the National League West title and a one game lead over St. Louis for the second Wild Card berth. More importantly, they are rounding in to the form of a World Series contender.

Justin Turner, Chris Taylor and Yasiel Puig are all hitting above .340 in the month of September. Clayton Kershaw hasn’t lost a start since July. Kenta Maeda appears to have settled into his role as a bullpen weapon.

And the guy on the mound tonight seems to get better with every start. Walker Buehler is now firmly the No. 2 starter in the rotation, which means he’ll play a significant role the rest of 2018. Buehler’s 2.74 ERA is right behind Kershaw’s 2.54 for best on the team among starters who have pitched 120 or more innings for L.A. this season.

He has an opportunity to put a nice bow on his first full regular season in Major League Baseball tonight in Arizona. He needs ten strikeouts to overtake Maeda for the most on the team–he had 12 in six innings against the Rockies last week.

First pitch for the penultimate game of the season between the Diamondbacks and Dodgers is at 6:30. Be sure to listen live on your Dodgers station in the Santa Clarita Valley, KHTS FM 98.1.
