Dodgers Look To Close Out NLCS With Kershaw On The Hill

The L

os Angeles Dodgers and Chicago Cubs slugged through a grueling NLCS Game 3 Wednesday night, with the Cubs avoiding elimination in a 3-2 win.

All seven of Chicago’s runs in the series have come via the home run, and all five runs for both teams in Game 4. The Cubs haven’t shown an ability to manufacture and sustain anything offensively besides hitting home runs, which could spell trouble for them heading into a game 5 of the NLCS tonight.

With Javier Baez snapping his 0-20 batting woes with two solo homers in the second and fifth inning, respectively, and with Wilson Contreras adding another solo home run the Cubs managed to keep their season alive for one more game.

Cub’s ace pitcher Jake Arrieta was as efficient as ever going 6.2 innings, allowing one run and striking out nine. His only run came via a Cody Bellinger homer to right in the 3rd.

In the 8th inning with Wade Davis in as relief, Cub’s manager, Joe Maddon, became enraged when a what looked to be a strike against Curtis Granderson was called a foul tip and got ejected from the game for the second time in the series.

Wade gave up a lead-off solo home run to Justin Turner in the 8th, which narrowed the Cub lead to 3-2. Davis was able to keep his composure and end the game striking out Chase Utley, who remains hitless in his last 24 postseason at-bats.

The Cub’s rotation gave up eight walks last night between Arrieta, Duensing and Davis. The Cub’s have  only given up seven walks in the previous three matchups.

Heading into a “do-or-die” scenario for the rest of the series and a match up against Dodger ace Clayton Kershaw in tonight’s NLCS Game 5, the Chicago Cub’s pitching rotation will have to limit the amount of walks they give up.

Enter, Clayton Kershaw.

Tonight’s game spells redemption for Kershaw and the Dodger’s alike, as it was almost a year ago in the 2016 NLCS that Los Angeles’ pennant bid ended on the same field.

It only seems appropriate that in tonight’s decisive game 5 of the NLCS, Kershaw be on the mound to try and end the reigning World Series champs quest to repeat and for the Dodgers to reach the pinnacle of baseball, the World Series.
