Dodgers Sign First-Round Pick Chris Reed

khts_sportsThe Dodgers signed their first-round draft pick, Chris Reed, a left-hander pitcher out of Stanford.

Reed played his high school baseball at Cleveland in Reseda and was the closer on the Stanford baseball team. He converted nine saves and had a 1.87 ERA for the Cardinal last season.

The Dodgers have signed 27 of their 50 draft picks, including eight of their top nine. The deadline for major league baseball teams to sign their draft picks in 6 p.m. today.

In auto racing, Connor Cantrell of Valencia won his first NASCAR Super Trucks race of the season at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale. He leads the Super Trucks standings at the track after 10 races.

RJ Johnson of Canyon Country won the NASCAR Super Late Models race at Irwindale. It was his fourth win in a row.

In the Firestone Indy Lights Series, Duarte Ferreira, driving for Bryan Herta Autosport, posted his first podium finish of the season. He was third in the Indy Lights race at New Hampshire International Speedway.

In baseball, the Angels lost to the Blue Jays, 5-4 in extra innings. The Blue Jays tied the game by scoring a run in the bottom of the ninth inning. Edwin Encanarcion knocked in the game-winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning for the Blue Jays.

In other games, the Rangers slipped past the A’s, 7-6, and the Mariners beat the Red Sox, 5-3.

The White Sox beat the Royals, 6-2, and the Orioles beat the Tigers, 8-5.

In the National League, the Giants beat the Marlins, 5-2,  the Padres beat the Reds, 7-3, the Diamondbacks beat the Mets, 5-3, and the Rockies lost to the Cardinals, 6-2.

The Cubs squeaked past the Braves, 6-5, and the Brewers beat the Pirates, 2-1 in 10 innings.
