Dodgers Take North Carolina High School SS In MLB Draft

khts_sportsThe Dodgers selected Corey Seager, a high school shortstop from North Carolina, in the first round of the Major League Baseball draft on Monday.

Seager was the 18th overall pick. He hit .519 with 10 home runs and 37 RBIs in his senior season of high school baseball.

The Major League Baseball draft continues today and concludes on Wednesday.

In soccer, the Santa Clarita Blue Heat lost to the Pali Blues, 1-0, in a United Soccer League W-League game.

Blue Heat goalkeeper Cynthia Jacobo made seven saves, but the Pali Blues scored in the 92nd minute, during injury time, to win the game.

The Santa Clarita Storm beat the Eureka Tsunami, 3-1, in a National Premier League Soccer game. Jorge Serrano scored a goal and had an assist for the Storm.

In high school ice hockey, the Northerners from the Antelope Valley won the Ice Station Valencia league championship, 4-3, over Saugus.

Liam Stritizinger scored two goals for the Northerners.

In the NCAA College Softball World Series, Hart High grad Jessica Shults has the Oklahoma Sooners one win away from a championship. She had two RBIs in Oklahoma’s 4-1 win over Alabama in the first game of the three-game series.

Shults had a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning and an RBI single in the sixth.

Game 2 against Alabama is tonight in Oklahoma City.

In the NBA playoffs, the Oklahoma City Thunder won Game 5 of the Western Conference Final, 108-103, over the San Antonio Spurs.

After winning 20 games in a row, the Spurs have lost three straight to the Thunder. Game 6 is Wednesday in Oklahoma City where the Thunder can wrap up the Western Conference championship.

In hockey, the Kings have a commanding 3-0 lead in the Stanley Cup Final after a convincing, 4-0, shutout over the New Jersey Devils at Staples Center.

Kings goalie Jonathan Quick recorded his third shutout of the playoffs and set the franchise record for most shutouts in the playoffs.

Game 4 is at Staples Center on Wednesday night.
