Dominguez Hot Start Leads Hart to a 70-53 Over Valencia

Hart senior Whitten Dominguez’ came out firing in the first quarter to jumpstart the Hart offense as Valencia could never get on track. Hart moves into sole possession of first place in the Foothill League with the only 2-0 record.

One of the most heated Foothill League rivalries took place when the Valencia Vikings traveled to Hart to take on the Indians Friday night.

The Indians came out on fire knocking down triple after triple in the first quarter, grabbing a lead they would never relinquish

Whitten Dominguez led the way for the Indians scoring 20 points, 11 of which came in the first quarter.

“We relied on our instincts which are talking, helping in the gap on defense, and we played as a whole,” Dominguez said following his team’s victory.

Hart’s Caleb Waldeck added 12 points off the bench, while starting point guard Tre Harrill lodded 11 points and six assists. Valencia’s CJ Finley had the Vikings’ best offensive performance with 18 points.

Hart was able to keep Valencia’s Dexter Akanno, the reigning Foothill League player of the year, in check with just six points. It played a huge role in the big win with the ability to neutralize the length of Valencia.

Hart would go on to win, 70-53, and take hold of first place after the first week of league play.

Valencia will take on their west side rival West Ranch on the road Tuesday, and Hart will face Canyon. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:30.
