Five SCV Football Teams Make CIF Southern Section Playoffs

The Valencia football team is the No. 2 seed in the CIF Southern Section Northern Division playoffs and open against Redondo Union in the first round on Friday night.

Santa Clarita High School Football

The Vikings won the Foothill League championship, their fifth in a row, with a perfect 5-0 record. They are coming off a 56-0 shutout against Golden Valley.

Redondo is an at-large team from the Bay League with a 6-4 record.

Canyon, Hart, Saugus and Santa Clarita Christian are also headed to the CIF football playoffs.

Canyon opens at home against West Torrance, the third-place team from the Bay League.

The Cowboys finished in second place in the Foothill League standings after a thrilling, 45-38 win over Hart in the Foothill League finale.

Hart is on the road and plays Paso Robles, the second-place team from the Pac 7 League. Hart, once the No. 1 ranked team in the Northern Division, has lost its past two games.

Saugus earned an at-large bid to the Northern Division playoffs. The Centurions play Atascadero, the Pac 7 League champion and the No. 3 seed in the playoffs.

Saugus beat West Ranch, 43-14, to finish in fourth place in the Foothill League and reached the .500 mark at 5-5.

The Santa Clarita Christian football team enters the Southern Section Northeast Division playoffs with an at-large bid. The Cardinals finished in third place in the San Joaquin League. They play Mission Prep, the No. 1 seed in the Northeast Division playoffs.

Santa Clarita High School Sports

In high school volleyball, three teams from the Foothill League are in the CIF Southern Section Division 1A playoffs.

Valencia, the Foothill League champion, opens at home against St. Joseph of Lakewood.

West Ranch is on the road in the first round and plays San Juan Hills.

Hart travels to face Aliso Niguel in the first round.

The Santa Clarita Christian girls volleyball team is the No. 3 seed in the Division VAA playoffs and has a bye in the first round.

The Albert Einstein Academy girls volleyball team opens on the road in the Division VA playoffs against Shalhevet of Los Angeles.

Los Angeles Sports Update

In the NBA, the Lakers lost to the Minnesota Timberwolves, 113-90. The Lakers have lost three of their past four games.

They play the New Orleans Pelicans next at Staples Center on Tuesday night.
