Foothill League Baseball Opening Day Full Of Surprises

Golden Valley, West Ranch post unexpected wins.

The Foothill League baseball season started with a couple stunners. Golden Valley won its opener against Canyon and West Ranch shut out Hart.

It was Golden Valley’s second league win in school history and its first in nearly two years.

West Ranch beat Hart, the reigning Foothill League champs, for the first time in its school history.
To recap, Golden Valley beat Canyon, 5-2, and West Ranch won, 8-0, over Hart. In the other Foothill League game, Saugus downed Valencia, 7-1.

In softball, Golden Valley won three games in the High Desert Classic over the weekend. West Ranch won two games in the same tournament.
Golden Valley beat Rosamond, 7-4, and La Salle, 8-3, on Saturday. West Ranch won 7-0 over Bishop and 8-0 over Apple Valley.

In college baseball, College of the Canyons got a three-run home run from Trevor Bloom in a 4-2 win over Pierce College.

In high school track, the Valencia girls 4-by-1,200-meter relay team posted the third fastest time in the history of the Camarillo meet on Saturday.
