Foothill League Season Opens Tonight In Boys and Girls Basketball

khts_sportsThe Foothill League season in boys and girls basketball opens tonight with a full slate of games in the Santa Clarita Valley.

The reigning Foothill League champion Valencia boys open on the road against West Ranch. The Golden Valley boys are at Saugus and Hart is at Canyon.

Valencia is 9-5 in the preseason and reached the championship game of the Canyon Classic tournament, losing to host Canyon by one point.

Canyon is off to a hot start as well and is 12-4 entering the first game of Foothill League play.

The Canyon girls, the reigning Foothill League champs, are home against Hart. The Golden Valley girls are on the road against Saugus. The Valencia girls are at West Ranch.

The Canyon girls are 14-2 and have won three games in a row. They also won the Burroughs basketball tournament.

In other high school basketball games, the Trinity Classical Academy boys host Hillcrest Christian and the Santa Clarita Christian boys are home against Pacifica.

The Santa Clarita Christian girls are also home for a game against Pacifica.

The boys and girls soccer teams from the Foothill League are all in action today.

The Canyon boys are home for a game against Hart. The West Ranch boys are home against Valencia and Golden Valley travels to Saugus.

The Saugus girls travel to Golden Valley, the Canyon girls are at Hart and the West Ranch girls are at Valencia.

The Santa Clarita Christian boys and girls soccer teams are home for games against Milken.

The Auburn Tigers won the BCS championship football game, 22-19, over the Oregon Ducks. Wes Byrum kicked a 19-yard field goal to give Auburn the win as time expired.

Auburn won its first national title since 1957 and capped an undefeated 14-0 season. Oregon lost its first game of the season.

The Kings lost to the visiting Toronto Maple Leafs, 3-2. It was the sixth loss in the past seven games for the Kings. They have also lost five of the past six games during the current eight-game homestand.

Wayne Simmonds and Michal Handzus each scored a goal for the Kings.

Next up for the Kings are the St. Louis Blues on Thursday night.
