Four Hart Girls Advance To Individual Final In CIF Golf Playoffs

khts_sportsFour girls from the Hart golf team advanced in the CIF Southern Section Northern Individual Regional at Las Posas Country Club in Camarillo.

Brenna Carlson, Amanda Corr, Jamie Corr and Nikki Prichard made the cut for the next round of the CIF playoffs, the Southern Section Individual Final at La Purisima Golf Course in Lompoc.

Carlson shot a 4-over par 76 and was four strokes off the lead. Mayko Wang from Los Altos shot the low round of the day with an even par 72.

Amanda Corr shot a 5-over par 75, Jamie Corr was 8-over par at 80 and Prichard came in with an 85, right at the cut line to advance to the individual final.

Nicole DeFrancisco and Catherine Walgamuth from Saugus and Sarah Hong from West Ranch did not make the cut.

The Saugus girls volleyball team won the Crescenta Valley tournament for the second year in a row.

Saugus beat Arroyo Grande in three games in the gold division championship match. After losing the first game, Saugus came back to win the next two, dominating the third game, 15-6.

Sarah Blomgren led Saugus will 11 kills against Arroyo Grande in the championship match. Ashley Pagan and Jaclyn Clark each had seven kills in the final.

Cory Nua set a school record with eight aces against Van Nuys in pool play and earned tournament most valuable player honors.

Ashley Guthrie and Clark were selected to the all-tournament team.

In college soccer, the College of the Canyons women shut out L.A. Valley College, 5-0, behind two goals and an assist from Michelle Malette. She scored the first goal of the game in the fourth minute. Her goal in the 34th minute gave COC a 3-0 lead.

She assisted on Cayla White’s goal in the 64th minute, the final score for COC.

The College of the Canyons men’s soccer team shut out Glendale College, 3-0. Hany Helmy scored a goal and had an assist as COC scored three times in the second half.

Jorge Serrano scored in the 62nd minute to break a scoreless tie. Marvin Delgado scored in the 74th minute to give COC a three-goal lead.

In college volleyball, The Master’s College women lost to Hope International University in three games. Sam Dougherty had 10 kills and Leslie Windham had 10 digs for The Master’s College.

It was the fifth loss in a row for The Master’s College women. They play Cal Baptist, the sixth-ranked team in the NAIA, tonight in Riverside.

The San Francisco Giants won the World Series for the first time since 1954 when the team was in New York and Willie Mays played centerfield.

The Giants beat the Texas Rangers, 3-1, in Game 5 of the World Series. Edgar Renteria broke a scoreless tie with a two-out, three-run home run in the seventh inning.

Giants start Tim Lincecum pitched eight shutout innings and struck out 10. He gave up a solo home run to Nelson Cruz in the eighth, but it was one of only three hits he surrendered in the game.

Renteria won the World Series MVP award. In five World Series games, he hit two home runs and drove in six runs.
