Freshmen A Big Hit For Hart, West Ranch Baseball Teams

A pair of freshmen came up with some big hits in high school baseball games on Wednesday.

West Ranch’s Jagger Rusconi hit a grand slam in his team’s 11-5 win over Golden Valley. The Wildcats improved to 3-0 in Foothill League play.

Hart kept pace with West Ranch in the Foothill League standings with a 7-4 win over Valencia. Freshman Dayton Provost had three hits for Hart. CJ Witkowski drove in two runs with a double in a five-run fifth inning for Hart.

The awards keep coming in for Santa Clarita Valley basketball players.

The Master’s College guard Anthony Cammon was selected to the NAIA All-American team. He earned an honorable mention after leading the Mustangs in scoring with 15.2 points per game and 3.6 assists per game.

Cammon is the first player from The Master’s College to make the NAIA All- American team since 2009 when Ryan Zamroz was selected.

College of the Canyons forward Rafael Love was selected to the California Community College Athletic Association All-State team. He earned first team honors and is the 11th player from COC to be selected to the All-State team.

Love averaged 17.9 points per game, tops on COC and third in the Western State Conference.

COC’s Wes Bartole and Brad Wyche were selected to the all-conference first team.

Three players from the COC women’s basketball team earned all-conference recognition.

Angelica Sahagun, Jazzmyn Davis and Amanda Ajdari were selected to the All-Western State Conference first team.

The Dodgers lost to the San Diego Padres, 3-0, in a Cactus League game in Arizona. Jamey Wright started for the Dodgers and pitched two perfect innings.

But the Padres scored three runs in the fifth inning.

Dodgers shortstop Dee Gordon had two hits and has a .343 batting average in spring training.

In hockey, the Kings have a five-game winning streak and play the St. Louis Blues tonight at Staples Center.

The Kings beat the San Jose Sharks, 5-2, on Tuesday night.
