Golden Valley Advances In Boys Basketball Playoffs

Facing the No. 1 seeded girls soccer team in the CIF Southern Section Division II playoffs didn’t faze Saugus yesterday. Ysabel Padron scored the lone goal in 1-0 win over Flintridge Sacred Heart moving Saugus into the quarterfinals.

It wasn’t such a happy ending for the Canyon girls. They lost to Corona del Mar, 1-0, in the Division II playoffs.

In the boys basketball playoffs, Maverick Ahanmisi set a Golden Valley school record with 41 points in a 75-72 win over Foothill in Division III-A.

But the Grizzlies were the only winners on a busy night of basketball playoffs.

Hart lost to Canyon of Anaheim, 70-47, in their Division III-AA game, Valencia lost to Leuzinger, 88-66, in Division II-AA, and West Ranch lost to Glendora, 68-51, in Division II-AA.

Valencia, the last remaining girls basketball team from the Foothill League in the Division II-AA playoffs, faces top-seeded Brea Olinda tonight.
In boys soccer, Saugus and Canyon have tough second-round playoff games in Division II-AA today. Saugus hosts Coachella Valley, the champions from the Desert Valley League, and Canyon travels to Bloomington, the third-place team from the Sunkist League.

In college softball, the College of the Canyons trounced Pierce College, 10-2.

In college basketball, The Master’s College women stunned 18th ranked Biola, 65-50, behind 21 points from Annie Gillespie. The Master’s College men lost to Biola, 63-51.
