Golden Valley Boys Volleyball Team Shocks Saugus

sportsgoldenvalleyThe Golden Valley boys volleyball team, playing without its starting setter, beat Saugus in five games.

Golden Valley won its first Foothill League match of the season after going winless in league play last year. Saugus lost its second league match in a row and is 0-2.

Colton Korne, playing in place of Josh Escoe, Golden Valley’s regular starting setter, recorded 42 assists. Ryan Kessler had 22 kills and Alec Schlossman added 17 kills for Golden Valley.

Matt Coleman had 17 kills and Ryan Mason had 39 assists for Saugus.

 

In high school softball, Valencia beat El Modena, 7-1. Madison Shipman and Tori Balta each had a double and drove in two runs for Valencia.

The College of the Canyons softball team beat Citrus College, 10-3. Ruby Herrera was 4-for-4 and scored runs. Karissa Hartwig was 2-for-3 with a two-run home run.

In high school track and field, the Canyon boys beat Golden Valley, 91-45, behind a pair of wins by Dariius Rudolph. He won the 100 and the 200 for Canyon.

The Canyon girls beat Golden Valley, 82-54. Canyon’s Keeli Howard won the 100 and the 200 and teammate Taylor Thomas won the 100 hurdles and the 300 hurdles. Both were also on the winning 4×400 relay team.

The Hart boys beat Valencia, 87.5-48.5. Trevor Lien won the 110 and 300 hurdles for Hart.

The Valencia girls came out on top over Hart, 87-49. Jasmine Hall was a triple winner in the 100 hurdles, 200 and high jump for Valencia.

The Saugus boys and girls track teams beat West Ranch. Saugus sprinter Amber Wright won a pair of events, taking the 100 and 200, to lead her team to an 89-43 win over West Ranch.

Daniel Whitman was a double winner for the Saugus boys. He won the discus and the shot put in his team’s 89-47 win over West Ranch.

It was a different story for West Ranch in the swimming pool. The West Ranch boys and girls swim teams beat Saugus in a Fooithll League dual meet. The West Ranch boys won, 99-71, and the West Ranch girls won, 88-82.

Riley Mita won the 200 freestyle and the 200 individual medley for the West Ranch boys. Taylor Poliseno won the 50 freestyle and the 100 freestyle for the West Ranch girls.

The Kings got a hat trick from Dustin Brown in an 8-3 win over the visiting Vancouver Canucks. Brown scored a goal in the first period to give the Kings a 3-0 lead. He scored again in the second period as the Kings went up 5-0. His third goal early in the third period put the Kings up 6-2. He also assisted on Alexander Frolov’s goal in the first period.
