Golden Valley Eliminated In Boys Basketball Playoffs

Grizzlies lose in semifinals to Gahr.

The Golden Valley boys basketball team got 41 points from senior Steven Thornton, but lost in the semifinals of the CIF Southern Section Division III-A playoffs to Gahr, 96-87, over the weekend.

Chivas USA from Major League Soccer shut out the Ventura Fusion, 4-0, in a benefit soccer game for the Michael Hoefflin Foundation at College of the Canyons on Sunday night.

In the Western States Hockey League playoffs, the Valencia Flyers eliminated the San Diego Gulls on Sunday in a best of three series. The Flyers won third and deciding game, 5-3, on Sunday.

In college basketball over the weekend, the College of the Canyons women’s team opened the California Community College playoffs with a win over Mt. San Jacinto College, 81-77, in the South Region Semifinals.

The Master’s College men’s basketball team got 27 points from Ryan Zamroz in a 72-67 win over Point Loma Nazarene. The Mater’s College women won 63-48 against Point Loma Nazarene.

In college baseball, The Master’s College won a doubleheader against Cal Baptist. They won 5-2 in the first game and 5-0 in the nightcap.

In college softball, the College of the Canyons won a pair of games Sunday in Bakersfield. The Lady Cougars beat Cypress College, 5-3, and then downed Mt. San Antonio College, 4-3.
