Golden Valley Girls Golf Team Wins Second Foothill League Match In A Row

The Golden Valley girls golf team made it two in a row, winning the second Foothill League match of the season.

The Grizzlies shot 235 as a team at Elkins Ranch in Fillmore, 10 strokes ahead of West Ranch.

Golden Valley’s Elisa Pierre shot the low round of the match, a 2-over 36. Illeana Dullas helped the Golden Valley cause with a 9-over 45.

Hart and Valencia tied for third place with team scores of 252.

In high school tennis, the Hart girls won their Foothill League opener, 13-5, against West Ranch.

Sophomore Natalia Munoz, who was undefeated in the Foothill League for Hart in her freshman season, swept her sets, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0.

The Canyon girls beat Golden Valley, 78-72, on games after the two teams tied 9-9. It was the first Foothill League win for Canyon since 2009.

The Valencia girls beat Saugus, 16-2.

The Master’s College women’s soccer team moved up a three spots in the NAIA top 25 after shutting out Cal State San Marcos.

The Lady Mustangs are No. 13 in the NAIA. They are off to the best start in school history since 2010. They are undefeated at 8-0. The 2010 Lady Mustangs started the season 8-0-1.

The Master’s College women beat Cal State San Marcos, then-ranked No. 15 in the NAIA, 2-0.

Elvia Contreras and Stephanie Albright scored the goals for the Lady Mustangs.

They have a few days off before their next game against Biola on Oct. 1.

In cross country, the results from the inaugural Master’s College Community 5k are in. Matt Rose from Rosamond won the race at Central Park in 18 minutes, 3.02 seconds.

Cristina Alcantar was the highest-finishing woman in the race in 19 minutes, 0.11 seconds.

In baseball, the Dodgers lost to the San Francisco Giants, 6-4. Barry Zito won his first game since May in what was most likely the last start of his career with the Giants.

Matt Kemp looks like he found his swing, going 3-for-4 with a double and drove in two runs.

The Dodgers and the Giants wrap up their series tonight in San Francisco. Listen to the game on AM 1220, KHTS. First pitch is at 7:15.
